My name is Rachael and I have been sponsoring a child in Africa for almost 4 years.
Last year I was blessed to visit my sponsor child and community and share our different worlds and really see for myself the amazing work that World Vision has been doing for the Area Development Project that my sponsorship is funding .
I was so overwhelmed by the experience being thanked for basic amenities such as toilets and desks for children to sit on at school, books and pencils is quite surreal .. we take so much for granted with our abundance.
I went home feeling emotional but also inspired and wanting to do something more, to put myself out there and challenge myself for change to make a difference for another family or Community.
So I decided and as I will be cycling through parts of Vietnam and Cambodia I will to donate all funds to World Vision towards a project in these regions.
The project that I will be working towards is T.R.A.C Total Reading Approach for Children.
With disappointing literacy scores among primary school children in Cambodia a phonics based curriculum is being introduced so that many key areas can be identified.
T.R.A.C will enable children to acquire essential early learning reading skills both encouraged at school and at home.
Each kit is expensive at $400 so I am hoping to fund raise through donations and chocolate sales enough for at least 3 kits to benefit hundreds of children in the school community.
